The Discovery

Captains Log: We have been traveling for over 23 years. The crew, the ageing crew, is now transferring critical knowledge to younger members, who are now ready to take up senior positions in the ship. Their optimism is praiseworthy. But is it of any importance?
Five years back, we warped straight into what I can only describe as a black-hole pin-ball. One after the other, we kept getting sucked into these black holes and it was ripping the ship apart.Somehow, we managed to get to the other side of this crazy freak-show of nature. Our ship was just about holding itself together.

Disoriented and confused, all we could do was follow the Prime directive, and find the nearest habitable planet and contact the High Command.

Space faring is not for the fainthearted. All this time alone in the vast nothingness of space… Sanity is about the only thing you can hope to latch onto. And for good reason. Space is a hostile environment, and most of it is out to kill you. One must always stay on guard to protect oneself and his or her brethren.

We coasted along a series of planets and with most of our mapping equipment not functioning, our best guess was that we were inside a solar system.
Things were looking very bleak when all of a sudden, there was a glimmer of hope.
Sensors picked up signs of life! We followed the sensor signals and lo and behold! There it was!

A massive blue ball, our beacon of hope! Joyous claps erupted! Land! We had found land after years in the numbing isolation. A moment to savor!

But in our revelry was silenced almost as abruptly as it had begun. The planet had armed all it’s weapons and locked onto us.

A hostile planet. What luck! After all this time, we find a planet that harbors life and this is what we are greeted with? We put our lives at stake so that the people benefit from the knowledge gathered, and the universe is peaceful. And this is how we are repaid?  NO. I shall take none of it.

We struck them with all we had. Phasers, canons, plasma, you name it. And we did not stop until we decimated everything. We obliterated all signs of life. They paid in full for their disregard for our sacrifices. And finally, my crew was safe. I protected my family. And I’ll do it all over again if I have to.
Soon after, I sent a crew of 4 to inspect the now dead planet. They reported nothing much, except piles of dead bodies and the smell of rotting flesh, until, all we heard was static…
After a long pause, I heard my commander-in-chief’s voice:
“Sir…..WHAT HAVE WE DONE…”
“What? Be clearer Aden…”, I was irritated and curious.
“Sir, I found a piece of paper like material with some text on it. It is of an ancient vernacular, roughly translates to ‘THE GUARDIAN, 26th November 2017’…”
“Sir, I think we’ve traveled through TIME…”

What have we done.
What have we done. What have we done.

A Beautiful Story

Hi there!
You, yes you.

I’m talking to you.

You are  gawking at the screen, eager to get back to the YouTube tab on your phone….Life could not be more mundane right?
Office, home, a few videos, some games, alcohol in weekends and a few blog posts like this on days when office is at its worst.
I know, I know , life can loiter at times.
But don’t you worry, life has its own ways to creep up behind your back.

Like, how would you feel if I told you that the person you can’t stop looking at in the Cafeteria is equally interested in you, that coming Wednesday is going to be the best day of your life, that the next big thing that you are planning, yes that thing, is going to be a resounding success? Yes, you heard it…

And what if I told you that I’m standing right behind you.

Ha! Made you look. And don’t smirk if you didn’t, you think you didn’t fall for it? Dude, you have been talking to a screen for some time now…
You think that is normal?

Maybe this isn’t a run of the mill creepy-pasta. How could you assume that you are reading a normal piece of literature? What if I told you that the things that you see in here are for your eyes only. That only YOU can see and hear me. Others see a lovely romantic short story.

I’m just messing with you.. Others see a great action thriller.
You might want to look behind one more time.

The Butler Did It

“I pulled most of my funds for this.”
“Is this the right thing?”
“Am I undoing a whole lot of good for nothing?”
No, NO. I shake these thoughts off and steel my resolve. I have to go ahead with this.
This city needs saving, and no one else I know has the resources to do so, other than this kid I care for.
All he needs is the motivation, and that’s where I come in.
I’m trying to convince myself that what I’m doing is not utterly terrible, but for the greater good.
But how, how can I ignore the sheer monstrosity of it all?
I assure you I take no pleasure in the chain of events that I’m supposedly setting off, unlike my employer, my real employer. He seems to take a keen interest in what the future holds for this city. And in that do I put all my faith, that somehow this madness will redeem this city and stop it in its path to self-destruction. Hence, I commit this heinous act.
I meet the man identified for the job at Robinson Park and hand him the money and the gun.
The Waynes should be on their way to the theater now.

Master Bruce, your journey towards becoming this city’s knight in the shining armor has begun.

The Flight

And the coarse juggernaut of the plane gave way to a smooth glide, and he could feel his legs lose weight as the plane took off.
He looked down the window, the city beneath him kept shrinking, and ultimately became invisible as the white behemoth soared above the clouds.
He had never liked airplanes. There was something oddly unsettling about knowing that life can end just that easily.
He tried to while away the dizzy feeling. He started observing people instead. He watched the crying baby way down the aisle, his head bobbing around to express his angst. Hunger, discomfort or just plain grand-standing, no one knew what the little devil was agitated about.
Then there was the air-hostess, the pretty one. Smiling away and helping people with their shit. How much does she want to punch that bald guy who keeps asking for salted peanuts.
He observed this world around him and wondered.
He wondered how people around him were oblivious of the fact that they were an hour or so away from not meeting each other ever again, and yet they were sharing this journey, this intimate waltz through the skies, this great risk of soaring towards the sun. Their nonchalance surprised, and perhaps angered him a little.
He whiled his time away, troubling himself with these thoughts and before he could realise, it was time to land.
And with bated breath, he waited for the wheels to hit the tarmac. He had never been able to shake off the feeling of impending doom during landings. Alas, his worst fears failed to materialize, and he adjusted himself back to his original position, which had been disturbed by the landing.
Colour returned to his face as the plane came to a gradual halt and the cabin drowned in a din of cellphones switching on and conversations beginning.

“Home and dry.”, he thought. A wry smile lit his face. He closed his eyes, said his prayers, and detonated the bomb.

Malay Ahead!

Malaysia. Well, a place that you see so often on telly and a place you so often you think of as “Breathtaking”, is a place you will most likely add to your “Must Visit” list.
With the Malaysia tourism ad ingrained into our minds (*High-Fives Malaysian Tourism Board*), its no wonder that everyone has dreamt of some or the other select place to go once they arrive in the land that is “Truly Asia”. Below is a list of a few things I would like to do, if the admittedly bold dream of going to this awesome place ever comes true:

Running Around Trees: As an Indian, running around trees comes naturally to me (stereotype much?). So Pahang was definitely a choice. Picturesque tea gardens and awesome Cameronian Tea await anyone who gives these mystical hills a visit. Also, I hear they have some killer scones up there. Absolute Zen.

Beach beach beach!: From the pristine hills of Pahang, we continue our search for the ultimate relaxation. Behold, the Tioman Islands. This place has got the lot- it has volcanic peaks, golden sand beaches, waterfalls, you name it. Such beautiful environs can hardly be given a miss. Definitely on my list.

The Taste Buds Are Next: I’m a foodie. That means pesto sauce runs through my veins. So my next must see Malaysia place is dedicated to my taste buds. Penang is a place for great street food with some of the best Malay food on offer. No reason not to go there. Also, the place is a cultural melting pot, and hence coined as a world heritage site. All the more reason to pay Penang a visit.

Blue hai Pani Pani: Sipadan Island has been touted as the best diving spot in the world and has been coined the phrase “untouched piece of art.”. Enough said. (Box checked.)

In search of Nasi Lemak: The foodie in me rears his head again as I head out in search for the perfect Nasi Lemak. Perfect dish hunting provides for hours of fun, wandering around and ultimate bliss when you accidentally bump into this little piece of heaven.

Cave in: Malaysia is blessed with some beautiful, old and grand caves. Be it the Hindu temples of Batu caves with its droves of worshipers or the ancient burial grounds of the Sabahan Caves, adventure is guaranteed. Going to Malaysia and not seeing these caves would be a sin!

All of that and loads of roaming around, food, and amazing people. That about sums up Malaysia for me. The M in Malaysia stands for Merry and that’s exactly what I’m going the make there.Cheerio!

A Change of Heart

                                                        *********************
On a rainy day… a day when I thought I was gone for sure, the most remarkable thing happened…
August 30, 2611 2:09 pm :Thought Log:
We were on our way to a critical pass. Capturing that area would give us the advantage.
It was then that our convoy was hit by one of them damn landmines. How on earth they found our convoy location, I do not know.
The impact hurled me towards the side, I hit a tree and I passed out.
The searing pain woke me up after some time. My left leg was severely damaged. The rain made it worse.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants of the nearby jungle had taken a keen interest in me.
“This is bad.”, I thought. I scared away a couple of tigers, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep this up. My power was draining like crazy. I would not last another day. It was clear.
This is how my life would end.
Years of struggle, defeats, sweet victories, friendships and conquests, all ending up in nothing. The “Great Steel” they called me, the one that would bring us victory. Little did they know that their leader would die a death that  befits a beggar.
 August 30, 2611, 11:07 pm :Thought Log:
My power was low and draining. I was ready to embrace the end.
“Are you okay?! Show me your life-meter!”, a voice tore apart the silence. My sight was giving up on me but I could just make out, to my utter surprise, that it was a girl, a little girl of flesh and blood.
“You ought to be careful!”, she said in her squeaky little voice.
Over a period of 2 days, she took care of me, fixed me up.
In the glowing light of her kindness, I stood in utter shame, the shadow of my violence staring at me blankly.
10 years ago, the first Human-Robot war had started. Millions of casualties to both the sides. And what did it yield? Pain sorrow, and endless grief.
And what the war could never give me, was handed to me by this little act of kindness.
 It made me happy.
The day I woke up in full strength, the girl was gone.
After a 3 day long journey, I was reunited with my troops. They were ready to take revenge for their leader. But I knew what I had to do.

A Letter of Doom

I have something to tell you…!
I stumble upon the dead people. Women, children, men all torn into pieces.
Houses destroyed, burning. I stare in utter horror, I as see a once prosperous, happy village, lay in ruins.
It all started a month back. At first it was just strays. Goats, cattle torn into pieces and spread on the ground, right in the middle of the village, as if it had been eaten by evil itself.
Village folks assumed it was the work of a lion or tiger from the forest nearby. Measures were taken, fences were mend, doors were locked. Once again, people felt safe. Everyone but me. To me, the carcass of the poor animal smelled like doom. There was something about the brutality of the killings, which said that it wasn’t the work of another animal.
Everyone was back to normal, except me. I slept uneasily. I had these nightmares… Nightmares of a monster, a being so evil, so ruthless and with features so horrific, that even death ran from it. I saw this creature devouring, tearing and eating anything and everything in its path. I became sad, tired and weak. My sleeplessness drove me to madness.
Meanwhile, the village killings had increased, both in number and in brutality. The “animal” was now declared a man-eater.People ran.
Some stayed. Only handful of them managed to survive.
One night, I woke up from a particularly disturbing nightmare, where the monster ripped the heart out of a poor man. I woke up with a start. I woke up in the middle of a burning, blood filled ruin. It WAS my village. I staggered to my feet and looked around. All I saw was bodies and blood.
I stumble upon the dead people. Women, children, men all torn into pieces.
Houses destroyed, burning. I stare in utter horror, I as see a once prospoereous, happy village lay in ruins.
In all this, I realized a bit late, that I was holding something.
Opening my hand, I saw a fully formed human heart…
This letter i throw in the lake, for you people on the other side. Run. Hide. Rrrrun beforeeee I turn into HIM againkjdkdnasdnf ,.dasf,.dfasdsm.f….
